April 7 – May 31, 2005

Opening Reception: Thursday, April 7, 2005, 6-8 pm

Of all non-human animals, dogs mirror most closely the activities and needs of the humans with whom they share their lives, occupying positions of affection, whether as participants in the hunt, as loyal companions in wild nature or on a farm, or as loving companions to the richest and the poorest, in city and in country. As loving, loyal, and unselfish companions they give to their masters and mistresses far more than they demand in return. Guide dogs are trustworthy aids to the blind, hospice visitor dogs give comfort to the sick, and search and rescue dogs become heroes who find survivors amidst the rubble of disasters

PUP ART: Portraits of Dogs by Three Contemporary Artists, curated by Hyewon Yi, a doctoral student at CUNY, Graduate Center, and presented at the Elmhurst Hospital Center Gallery, offers a generous array of images of man’s best friend. The three participating artists are dog lovers whose lives have been intimately woven with the lives of dogs and their experiences manifest themselves in unique artistic expressions.
